reversal
" The Supreme Court of Virginia reversed a ruling concerning the estate of the late Robert Eugene Wood and Virginia Fletcher Wood who died on the evening of August 28, 1979, when their car stalled on a bridge over the Thornton River during a flash flood.
Judge William Shore Robertson had originally ruled in the Circuit Court of Rappahannock County that Virginia Fletcher Wood’s will bequeathing money for the ‘heart fund’ was void for indefmiteness. This had the effect of giving half of the estate to seven heirs. The executor of the estate is Giles H. Miller, Jr.
Gerald Baliles, acting as Attorney General for Virginia, the American Heart Association, Virginia Affiliate, Inc., and the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia each appealed that decision to the Supreme Court in Richmond.
In an opinion delivered by Justice Richard H. Poff of the Virginia Supreme Court, all three appeals, were consolidated for consideration. The American Heart Association,
