To the editor:
Far too often, the American fanner is drawn into various controversies for the purpose of being used as an example, and far too often that example is not a positive one. Ms. Wittl’s March 13th letter to the editor is a classic example of this deplorable situation.
In her letter, Ms. Wittl references a recent national television news series on the American farmer. Based on the facts used from this “news series” by Ms.Wittl, I have decided that the reporter must have lived in New York City, never been on a farm and never met a farmer. Many of the deductions quoted from the “news series” couldn’t be farther from the truth.
One obviously erroneous statement quoted from the “news series” by Ms. Wittl is: Farm families are “dying of financial ruin” because of “poor eci iomic management due to inadequate education.” To the contrary, I would suggest that farmers are among the better economic managers in Rappahannock County.
