“Several students did models made out of wood which were very impressive. I like to use them to talk about volume and surface area. Having a model is really helpful. Several of the girls made pillows with pieced patchwork designs that were mathematical patterns,” Mrs. LaCava said.
“I rewarded originality mostly, even if it was a report. I had reports done on people I never heard of,” said Mrs. LaCava. “Also, I considered what kind of effort they had put into it.”
Robert Glasker, a student in Mrs. LaCava’s class, talked about his projects.
“I did a report on Pythagoras. I found out that he was an exciting man and he did a whole lot for geometry,” Robert explained. “I went to the library and found information on him. It took me about four nights to do it.”
“It was interesting to find out how he worked and the ideas that he came up with, like the Pythagorean Theory.” Robert concluded, “Before this report I didn’t know much about this man. Now I do!”
Mrs. Herman and. Mrs. LaCava agreed that the students are the ones who put all the work into their projects.
The projects are on display in the front show case of the high school.
