In a special assembly held this week, Wakefield Headmaster William E. Lynn was presented with the first place trophy for the school’s Junior Varsity Basketball Team. The trophy, won in the Delaney Athletic Conference Championship, was presented by team captain Brian McGushin of Haymarket. Mr. Lynn commented that it was amazing to recall where the team was only a few years ago and to see what it had be-come this season.
Coach Gary Leake noted that the. team had work^ veryl^ard to earn their fifSC1place standing and noted that “the guys had the desire, hustle, and dedication necessary to be a championship team. They worked hard to perfect their offenses and gave 100 percent on defense. With a little more maturity, Wakefield can count on the excitement in the future that this team showed this season.”
During the assembly, Varsity Basketball Captain David Rowzie of Amissville presented the third place trophy from the tournament to the Headmaster. David remarked, “We (the team) were inept a few years ago. Coach Leake has worked very hard, it really is his trophy, he deserves it.”
