Wakefield’s tennis team will be returning its four top seeds in John Landis of Front Royal, David Rowzie of Amissville, Hugues Steinier of Culpeper and Larry Tarr of Warrenton. Because the returning players will be experienced, Mr. Maeyer expects to have a successful record by the season’s end. However, as Mr. Maeyer stated, “It. is more important to play the game well than to r win. If the team plays well, then I will be happy.”
The lacrosse team will also have a new head coach with Patrick Duffy filling the position. Coach Duffy is also very optimistic about the season, for he has several returning players including co-captains Jordan Bentley of Middleburg and Lee Poore of Washington as well as Jeff Reid of Front Royal. Jerry McDowell of Warrenton, a first year player, will assume the position of goalie.
Wakefield’s lacrosse team, the Owls, will have an expanded schedule this season. An exciting match is planned as Wakefield meets a team from Beckenham, England, in the school’s first international match to be held April 1.
