With those words Friday evening Supervisor Nelson Lane moved that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution recommending that the Lee property off the Fodderstack road between Washington and Flint Hill be considered by the state’s Division of Solid Waste Management as the location for Rappahannock County’s long-delayed sanitary landfill.
Following a brief discussion at Friday evening’s “public meeting, not public hearing,” as Chairman Hubert Gilkey reminded the audience of about 50 residents, the supervisors adopted Mr. Lane’s resolution by a vote of four to one. Supervisor Newbill Miller, representing Hampton District, which includes the proposed landfill site, cast the lone dissenting vote.
In a discussion before Mr. Lane offered his resolution, Mr; Gilkey reported that he and Supervisor Charles Estes had visited the Striker property on Rt. 637 near Amissville. (At last week’s public hearing on the Lees’ landfill application, the supervisors reported that the Striker property was one of four alternative sites “evaluated” for a landfill.
