At the meeting Friday night, the supervisors also created a citizens’ advisory committee to attempt to locate alternate landfill sites. The committee will be made up of two residents of each of the county’s five magisterial districts, plus two members of the board of supervisors.

Named to the advisory committee were, from Hampton District: Vincent Day and Mike Massie; Wakefield District: Jennifer Matthews and Ross Hales; Jackson District: Beverly Massie and Philip Angell; Piedmont District: David S. Anderson, Jr. and Guy E. Foster, Jr.; Stonewall-Hawthome District: H. B. Wood, Jr. and David Chuse. Mr. Massie was nominated to, and accepted, the chairmanship of the committee. Supervisors Estes and Gilkey will serve as representatives of the board.

Supervisor Lane requested that former supervisor H.B. Wood be named to the committee in the place of Joyce Abell, whose name had been submitted on the original list. Mr. Lane said that he had spoken with Mr. Wood and that he had agreed to serve on the committee. ‘‘I’d like to see H. B. appointed. He might even have a residue of responsibility to bring.”

The supervisors recommended that the new advisory committee use the “Price committee” report on alternatives for solid waste disposal. “I thought that the reason for the committee was to'find a site,” Mr. Estes said. “I want the committee to have the benefit of the (Price) report — not do the same work all over again.”

Following the appointment of Mike Massie as chairman, Mr. Gilkey suggested that the committee “set up a session as soon as possible. Sit down and go over the Price committee report, set up the options and get going.”

The supervisors then recessed until their Tuesday evening work session with the Board of Zoning Appeals on the proposed zoning ordinance.
