Rappahannock News photo/Lou Hatter RAPPAHANNOCK FIREFIGHTERS SAVED this home in Rappahannock Lakes last Thursday afternoon. “It was a good stop,” reported Amissville Chief Paul Poling (center). “The way it started they could have lost the whole house.” Chief Poling said that the fire apparently was caused by an iron. Actual fire damage was confined to the laundry room, although the entire structure was damaged by smoke. Chief Poling said that insulation in the walls and ceiling of the house helped to confine the fire. “Even though it eventually bums through, insulation does slow down the spread of the fire.” The house is owned by Mike and Terri Miller. Units from Washington, Amissville and Flint Hill responded to the alarm. Sperryville also provided a tanker, which was returned to service before it arrived on the scene.
