To the editor:
When the voters of Virginia go to the polls early next month, they will be asked to approve or reject four proposed changes to the Constitution of Virginia. Let’s hope that most of them are informed about these issues beforehand. Two of these questions pertain to voter registration and two pertain to our judicial sysvtem..
1. The Constitution now requires the automatic cancellation of the registration of any voter who has failed to vote at least once during four consecutive calendar years. One of the proposed amendments would allow a person who has so failed to vote and is notified of the pending cancellation of registration to remain registered by returning a written response indicating a desire to do so.
2. The Constitution now prohibits any federal, state or local government officer or employee from serving as a member of an electoral board, a voter registrar, or an officer of election. One of the proposed amendments would revise this prohibition to permit non-elected government
