The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection is planning its annual meeting of members, election of officers and public program on Friday, October 24.
James J. Wilson will be the special guest speaker. He will address the topic, “Development and Developers-How it Can Happen Here.” Being a developer by trade, Mr. Wilson will offer an “insider’s” perspective on the operations of developers as they maneuver to build shopping centers, housing projects and other lucrative ventures in areas which may unwittingly invite them in, or even in areas which oppose their plans.
The policies adopted by local governments and citizens groups can make a given area more or less attractive to development interests, according to Mr. Wilson, and he will provide information about how localities may protect themselves from unwanted or unwise development interests.
Also planned for the program is a report developed from information supplied by local realtors, who according to RLEP are some of the best friends of the movement to keep Rappahannock in its beautiful and largely
