Thirty-five supportive parents and teachers attended the first Rappahannock Elementary School Student Parent Teacher Association meeting; on October 7.
This year’s officers are Cindi Andreoni, president; Judy Tole, vice president: April Heddleston, secretary; Edie Clarke, treasurer; and Christopher Sutton, student representative.
Mrs. Andreoni gave an updated report on projects that were discussed at the SPTA’s last meeting. She stated that field trip funds had been made available to the teachers to provide money for students who could not afford essential fees for field trips. The money may also be used by teachers for added field trip expenses.
A discipline workshop sponsored by the Mental Health Association and the SPTA will be held in the future. No date has been set.
Mrs. Andreoni circulated information pertaining to the National PTA. She was unable to contact the local representative to find out specific qualifications for the Rappahannock association to become a member of the National PTA.
Additional trash cans in the school’s cafeteria were discussed but the decision was that adequate trash disposal is available to the students.
A Halloween sock hop will be the first of four sock hops to be held this year. Student representative Chris Sutton conveyed the great interest that the students had expressed in having the Halloween sock hop on Halloween night. Therefore, it was decided that the sock hop will be held October 31 at 7:30. The admission is $1.00 per person with a $5.00
