Eurythmy
performance
In conjunction with the VABF meeting, a Eurythmy performance will be offered October 18 at 8 p.m. at the Gay Street Theater, presenting a further extension of Rudolf Steiner’s special genius.
The father of biodynamics brought his love of balance and harmony to dance, which in Steiner’s day was undergoing dramatic changes, entering the first stages of what we now know as modem dance. Steiner developed Eurythmy, a form that those who know it call visible speech, visible poetry, visible music.
Unlike many kinds of dance, selfexpression is not the goal of Eurythmy. The dancer is actually the medium for a poem or composition.
Neither athletics nor emotion is. the major influence on Eurythmic dancers. They are trained to find movements arising directly from the work of art, giving the audience a performance uncolored by their own intentions and as true to the original as possible in artistic interpretation.
Saturday’s performance, presented by the Washington Eurythmy Group, is a program of major importance for this area. Eurythmy is popular and extensively performed in Europe; it is rare here and even more so outside of a major urban center.
The performance is called Eurythmy, Music and the Fairy Tale. Miriam Harris, president of the Virginia Association of Biological Farmers, recommends that tickets be reserved immediately as advance sales have already been very successful.
