At its meeting, the council said that communication from the town citizens was overwhelmingly against the landfill site. And the disappointment expressed in the subsequently sent letter was obvious.
“They’re full of lies,” said Peter Skowronski.
“I wonder if the citizens know that they may have to be eventually taxed to defend themselves from the pollution of their water,” asked Mrs. Willis.
“Well, I intend to save them from that possibility,” commented Mr. Morehouse.
In a related matter, the council authorized a public hearing to consider an ordinance enacting the town’s jurisdiction over its water supply, enabled by State legislation. Mr. Morehouse pointed out that this subject was addressed several months ago before the landfill issue became public.
The mayor concluded the discussion of the landfill with a promise to fulfill the council’s wishes to deal firmly with the Supervisors.
“You’ve given me a high-powered rifle,” he said. “I’m going to aim straight for the heart.”
