but the capital outlay project does not use an expanding enrollment for justification; the high school is not adequate for even fewer students than it now houses, the superintendent said.
In reviewing the cost of the proposed capital outlay program, Mr. Estabrook noted that repayment of the $1,431,036 Literary Loan at five percent interest will add 6 1/2 to 7 cents on the tax rate for the first annual installment and a lesser amount in each of the ensuihg 19 years as the loan balance decreases. The Literary Loan covers architects’ fees, construction and fixed furnishings. Desks, chairs and other non-fixed furniture will cost roughly $80,000 which must come from the regular school budget. In addition, tax dollars must be used to pay $42,964 in interest charged for a temporary construction loan.
“We can’t believe there’d be any other way to do this,” said Mr. Estabrook.
“I think your presentation demonstrates that,” concluded Supervisor Miller.
