RICHMOND—State, local and federal officials described the raid Oct. 6 on holdings of political extremist Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. as successful but turned aside all questions on what was uncovered, who else might be charged and if the investigation would expand to other states,

“It would be premature for me to comment on what evidence was found,” state Attorney General Mary Sue Terry said at a news conference Oct. 8, “but suffice it to say the operation was a success.”.

Asked if Mr. LaRouche might be charged, Ms. Terry said “it’s premature at this time to speculate on what individuals might be indicted as a result of this investigation.”

State, federal and local authorities raided LaRouche headquarters in Leesburg Oct. 6 and seized records they believe will support charges of securities law violations against LaRouche organizations and followers.’

Terry said the raid came after an investigation that spanned several months.

“I think the general feeling is one of relief,” Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney William Burch said. “I think there has been a change in the atmosphere of Loudon County since Mr. LaRouche moved in, and I think this is something a majority of the citizens were very glad to see come about.”

The documents seized are related to a Boston federal grand jury’s indictments of five LaRouche-affiliated organizations and 10 of his followers, officials said. The federal indictments allege 117 counts of credit card fraud and obstruction of justice.

Ms. Terry said she could not estimate how many people, how many states or how much money was involved in the suspected securities law violations.

She also was unable to say when state charges might be filed.
