As of Monday it became state law that every member of a hunting party (whether or not actively hunting) wear a blaze orange hat or upper body clothing which is visible from 360 degrees. If the hunter is stationary, such as in a stand, at least 100 square inches of blaze orange may be displayed within arms’ reach. It too must be visible from 360degrees.
Blaze orange camouflage is not acceptable under the new state law, the Virginia Game Commission cautioned. It may be worn, according to the Commission, as long as the hunter complies with the law by wearing one article of the required solid blaze orange clothing. The camouflage is not acceptable under the law, the Commission explained, because field tests have shown that blaze orange camouflage is much less detectable by the human eye than soljd blaze orange in subdued light, the kind found around dawn, dusk, and in deep woods.
