In Mr. Kilby’s work, it doesn’t feel as though there is something missing, and that is a talent that very few photographers have. His attention to balance and light put him in the league of photographic masters like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.
In some cases, however, his printing techniques are not as masterful as his vision.
The simplicity of his subject matter evokes an emotion, as in the case of one photograph of a deserted intersection in rural Montana, where simply from his vantage point he captures the feeling of human insignificance that the magnitude of the western landscape generates.
I was also left with a sense of urgency about the importance of maintaining the wilderness after seeing Tim Kilby’s photographs. Through his clarity and powerful vision, he creates a sense of worship of the land. In doing so, he charges us with
