Superintendent David Gangel is banking on the school enrollment increase holding steady through March, the point at which the state takes its reading to determine the multiplier for the $2,250 per pupil in aid for education Rappahannock County will receive this year.
The 1987-88 school budget was built on an average daily membership (ADM) of 881. “I don’t know what it will be in March, but I think we’re looking at 931 - at least,” Dr. Gangel told the School Board last week.
The superintendent has asked the Department of Education just exactly what that 50 student increase will bring in the way of additional money from the state but has been unable to get a precise answer. But the higher than anticipated enrollment should translate into at least $46,000 more in state aid than projected in this year’s budget, Dr. Gangel said. “And it probably means more than that if the ADM holds at 931.”
