There are a number of other laws regulating hunting in Rappahannock County which remain unchanged. The one which attracts the most attention each year is the ban on hunting from or within 100 yards of a road. It is also illegal to shoot OR ATTEMPT TO SHOOT ANY ANIMAL from a vehicle.

Warden Bankston said that the Game Commission will continue to use the “Bambiscam” operation throughout the state this season. The stuffed deer proved an irresistible target last year to a number of roadhunters, who found themselves facing charges of illegal hunting.

Spotlighting without the landowner’s permission, or ANY TIME while in possession of a firearm or other weapon, is also illegal. There is no hunting on Sunday. State law also prohibits hunting while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

It is illegal to lure game by means of salt or any other bait, to use live birds or animals to decoy or lure game, or to call game with recorded or electronically amplified devices.
