The annual 4-H Pig Chain
aVards banquet sponsored by Sears Roebuck was held Thursday evening at the Hy-Wy Restaurant in Front Royal. Both Warren and Rappahannock County 4-H-ers participate in the pig chain, which is sponsored jointly by the Sears Roebuck Foundation and Front Royal Catalog Store. The swine project was started some 15 years ago and the chain has continued through the years. A 4-H’er is given a sow which is bred, and from the litter raised, a sow is given another youngster the following year. Records must be kept until the project’s completion, after which judging takes place. In first place in Rappahannock was Lincoln Timbers, followed by Wayne Dodson second, Joe Smith third and Joan Welch fourth. A cash award is presented the winner in addition to ribbons.
