I wish to express my concern about and opposition toward the proposed four lane widening of Route 211 between the towns of Washington, Va., and Sperryville. As Mr. and Mrs. Cadwalader Jr. expressed it so well earlier on these pages, such an expensive project appears as possibly wasteful, likely unneeded, and may be even detrimental as it could detract from the scenic value of the land between Washington and Sperryville.
Perhaps it is still not too late to have more input into these plans, especially by the year around residents and by those who will be most affected: the residents of Sperryville. Maybe a bit of judicious upgrading of the existing two lane highway would be adequate to improve road safety, if that is a prime concern for this proposal by the highway people.
Overall, it would be appropriate to hear from others in the county as to what other road they would rather see improved upon, covered
