With that as surety, the School Board authorized a request to the Board of Supervisors for an additional $46,000 appropriation.
Dr. Gangel proposes that $17,832 be used for bleachers for the new high school gymnasium now under construction. This year’s budget has $15,180 available for gym seating: bids opened at last Tuesday’s School Board meeting ranged from a low of $32,200 for wood bleachers to a high of $33,944 for plastic. “In order to go ahead, we have to have additional funds,” Dr. Gangel said, asking for authority to seek the supplemental appropriation from the supervisors.
If the supervisors grant the petition, Dr. Gangel suggested that only $17,832 for the bleachers be expended immediately, maintaining that it’s “appropriate and safe” to count on state aid being that much more than expected. Then after reassessing enrollment in January or February, the School Board can make a decision on whether to spend the balance of the $46,000 for auditorium seating, he added.
