it you re hunting in unlanuhar territory, or are some distance from vehicle or houses, matches in a waterproof container and a couple of candy bars might come in handy if you get lost. Aluminum-foil type “space blankets,” in a package about the size of a bar of soap, might also come in handy if you get lost and have to spend some time outside. Though they look flimsy, they conserve heat efficiently, are wind and waterproof, and are easy to spot by searchers. However, you’ll never get it folded back up into the package.
And make sure that someone at home knows where you’re going, and when you expect to return. If you’re staying later, or change your plans, tell that person. That way, if you have an accident or get lost, rescuers will have some idea where to look.
And, if you’re wearing blaze orange, you should be easier to find.
