‘Kangaroo’
The movie Kangaroo will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 29 and 30. D. H. Lawrence’s powerful classic, Kangaroo, is based on a true-life adventure of the author. Writer Richard Somers (Colin Friels) and his German wife (Judy Davis) flee to Australia to escape the suffocating constraints of Edwardian England. Although they are deeply in love, their relationship is severely tested when they are drawn to their attractive neighbors. The enigmatic Kangaroo (Hugh Keays-Byrne) is at the center of a plot of brutal and bloody political upheaval. Kangaroo is an unforgettable story about love, affirmation and commitment, set against the grandeur of the Australian landscape. This film will be Gay Street Theatre’s first production in Cinemascope. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

CMH blood drive
Culpeper Memorial Hospital will host a Red Cross blood drive on Friday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to join Culpeper Memorial’s staff in helping to meet the demand for blood in Culpeper County. Appointment times are being reserved to keep lines short and minimize waiting time. Donors are urged to call the hospital at 829-4305 to schedule an appointment in advance.
Free ‘Know Your Heart’ program
In recognition of National Heart Month, Fauquier Hospital is sponsoring a free educational series focusing on issues concerning the heart each Tuesday during February.
Dr. Norris Royston will present the first session of the “Know Your Heart” series Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fauquier Hospital Education Center. His lecture will focus on Chest Pain: What does it mean? What should you do? Dr. Royston will answer these questions and others concerning symptoms of heart disease.
La Leche League to meet
The Advantages of Breastfeeding will be the topic at the meeting of the Fauquier County La Leche League Feb. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Feleicia Brooks near Warrenton. This is the first in a series of four discussion meetings which offer both encouragement and breastfeeding information to interested mothers.
