To the editor:
We urge all who are interested in halting plans to widen Route 211 tq attend the Board of Supervisors1 meeting on Monday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Washington courthouse. At that time, the Board of Supervi-> sors will be holding its annual road hearing for the purpose of updating the county’s six-year road plan.
We feel that safety issues can be addressed by constructing deceleration lanes at heavily trafficked points (like the Farmers’ Co-op and, the Child Care and Learning Center) and through construction of ad*equate highway shoulders.
We doubt whether, in the long run, the proposed widening of the^ road into a four-lane thoroughfarq., would in fact bring the town of Sper-. ryville more of the quality tourism that its merchants are seeking.
On the contrary, we are certain ' that such a move would prove harm- > ful to the magnificent rural beauty * that brings tourists to the county ifi ’» the first place. » J
