Star gazing
dates changed
There are several changes in the day and date of C. M. Crockett Park’s star observation program, “Star Light, Star Bright.” The original' information was published in Fauquier County Parks and Recreation’s winter Recreational Gazette that was in the Dec. 17 issue of The Fauquier Democrat.
The following are the correct days and dates: the Friday, Feb. 5, meeting is changed to Saturday, Feb. 6, and the Friday, March 4, date is changed to Saturday, March 5. These changes were made by Northern Virginia Astronomy Club (NOVAC), who are the leaders of these programs, so their members do not have to deal with the Friday traffic.
These star gazing sessions are open to the public and are held in the park’s parking lot. Participants will get a chance to see star clusters, ring nebula and planets through NOVAC telescopes. “Binoculars and warm clothes” are suggested items to bring, says NOVAC President Blaine Korcel. Observations begin at sunset and last several hours. The public is invited to stay for as short or long a time as desired.
