On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Russian airline Aeroflot delivered 100 Soviet citizens to Washington, D. C. The visitors are here to attend a “Citizens’ Summit” in Washington from Feb. 15. Also attending the summit meeting will be 150 Americans whose professional credentials match those of the Soviet participants, and 300 American delegates who are the financial qwnsors for the guests.

The Russians are here to organize joint projects between the two countries for the benefit of humanity, according to the Center for Soviet-American Dialogue, the Washington-based foundation overseeing the meetfog- fogOn

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 11 of the Soviet visitors arrived in Rappahannock County for a fiveday visit. Several county families have offered to serve as hosts for the visitors during their stay, including Brad and Dawn Fisher of Washington, Pat and Dick Helmer of Castleton, Maurice and Jane Herndon of Sperry ville, Dalton and Robin Kevis of Washington and Norman and Sandra Cartwright-Brown of Slate Mills.

Accompanying the Soviet delegation is Phyllis Grimes, acting secretary and assistant administrator for the Center. She will serve as liaison between the Rappahannock hosts, the visiting Russians and the Center.

Early this week, the Soviet government released the names and some biographical information about the Russian delegation to the summit. The 11 who will visit Rappahannock County are:

Elina Bystritskaya: an actress and artist with the USSR Theatre.

Valentin Chemyikh: a Soviet filmmaker who won an Academy Award (Best Foreign Film) for his Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears.

Efam Gamburg: a director of animated cartoons.

Michail Zykov: Assistant Professor of Social Sciences, Institute of Theatrical Arts.

Elana Petushkova: a senior researcher in biology and Olympic champion equestrienne.

Evgeny Matveev: a cinema producer and director.
