Family divisions accounted for 28 of the new lots in 1987; non-exempt subdivided lots totaled 20. “Those divisions which resulted in no lots of less or equal to 50 acres are not included,” Mr. McCarthy noted. “If, however, a division resulted in parcels of, for instance, 40 and 100 acres, then both are included.”
The average size of the nonexempt lots subdivided in 1987 was 38.2 acres while the average size of the family division lots was 7.89 acres. But that second figure “is a little misleading,” the zoning administrator said. “Predominantly, the family divisions resulted in lots of five acres or less.” But a few family divisions of 35 acres and larger skewed the average, he explained.
