borne years ago, the Methodist Chtirch in Washington was deconsecrated. It is now the town’s official but unused Town Hall, serving solely as a thrift shop for the Washinjj^ton Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary. A storage room in the Basement holds supplies for the town’s water system.

'Much the same fate befell the town’s Presbyterian Church on Gay Sstfeet, which now welcomes the community again as the Rappahannlobk County Library. f'ln Flint Hill, the Methodist Church stands as only a monument to'its past; empty and forlorn, its windows are boarded against vandafs.

^ ’Oakley Baptist Church, in Gid Bfown Hollow, held one final service last summer before it was closed and its contents auctioned as mementos. The auction’s proceeds were donated td the Shiloh Baptist Association, to which the church belonged.

Piedmont Baptist, a once-thriving; church in the F. T. Valley, cut back to one service a year and is barely surviving. Most of its congregation has died or moved away, and ^-he few remaining now attend larger churches in the neighboring towns. InMthe faH. And, just after Christmas, another community church was added to, the list. Emmanuel Episcopal CnUrch in Sperryville was formally deconsecrated in a ceremony presided over by the Rev. Jennings Hobson III.
