One needs only to drive some of our paved secondary roads to understand that this may not be the best alternative. In many cases the smooth surface allows speeds to increase and creates a dangerous road. Wildlife also suffers as the “road-kill increases. These paved roads remain scenic and accessible to the public so there is increased use by tourists, bicyclists, and those who prefer to take the paved route. So, the vehicles not only move faster, there are more of them.
