Rappahannock has its first county landfill.
On April 10, Cynthia Bailey, executive director of the Virginia Department of Waste Management, signed permit No. 520 for the operation of a sanitary landfill on the 99-acre Stover tract located at the end of Rt. 639 east of Amissville.
“The necessary data submitted as the facility design plans satisfy the requirements of the Department of Waste Management for this permit to be issued,” wrote Berry F. Wright, technical services chief who has worked closely with the county through the long permitting process.
Construction of the access road is already underway and the county will advertise this week and next for bids on the major portion of the development of the landfill itself, according to administrative assistant John McCarthy.
