is currently seeking qualified applicants for the following position in the Culpeper Residency:
HIGHWAY FOREMAN DUTIES: Supervises highway employees engaged in highway maintenance and construction activities and/or supervises convict laborers. Assigns specific tasks to laborers and equipment operators. Provides instruction to work crews in methodology for patching and ditching roads, repairing bridges, removing roadway snow and ice, fabricating signs, etc. Gives safety instructions and demonstrates use of tools and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Keeps records of hours worked, materials used, and work accomplished in relation to schedules. Occasionally operates equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of highway construction and maintenance equipment, materials, and methods; ability to plan, layout, instruct and supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and manual labor; ability to keep accurate records of costs and progress; ability to meet the public, ability to work within budgets; valid Virginia Operator’s license and ability to operate light-duty highway equipment. Must be physically able to perform heavy manual labor. Willingness to be sworn in as a peace officer to supervise convict labor. Safety shoes required in the performance of the above duties. Graduation from high school or equivalent and experience related to highway construction and maintenance work, or a combination of experience and training which provides the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities. SALARY: $16,025 - $21,889 - (Grade 7).
