Lions benefit acution planned

The Rappahannock Lions Club auction will be held Saturday, May 14, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington fire hall. Proceeds will go towards new scoreboards for the new gym at the high school. For more information call 987-8395.

Extended hours at Treasurer’s Office

County Treasurer Frances Foster has announced the Rappahannock Treasurer’s Office will have extended hours through April in order for residents to obtain their county stickers. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Hunter education at RCES

The Virginia Game Commission will sponsor a Hunter Education and Safety course at the elementary school on Saturday, April 23, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The course is free and open to the public. Hunters are reminded that, beginning July 1, the course will be required for all first-time hunters and any hunter 16 years of age or younger. Students are particularly encouraged to attend this course.

‘A Great Wall’

The movie The Great Wall will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24, at 7:30 each evening. (Mandarin with English subtitles.) This disarming cross-cultural comedy-drama takes its title from the immortal words of Richard M. Nixon, who, on the occasion of his epochal visit to China, observed, “The Great Wall... is a great wall.” Peter Wang’s high-spirited audience-pleaser works a wry contemporary variation on the country cousin/city cousin theme. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Bloodmobile coming

The Rappahannock Extension Homemakers are sponsoring the Red Cross bloodmobile visit to the county as part of Extension Homemakers’ Week. The bloodmobile will be at the Washington fire hall from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4. Anyone over the age of 18 in good health may donate blood.
