The 1988 Virginia Herb Guide has just been published by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The list offer a wide variety of fresh herbs, dried herbs and other herbal products.
The guide also includes a culinary chart with recommendations on herbs and the foods they complement. If you are unfamiliar with the taste of an herb, add it to a small amount of butter, margarine or cottage cheese. Allow it to sit for an hour to absorb the flavor, then try it on a plain cracker. Once you become
more familiar with the various herbs, begin experimenting with them in your cooking. Remember to add the herbs during the last five minutes of cooking time.
