Criticizing the arrangement whereby Rappahannock students are bussed to Piedmont Vocational Education Center in Culpeper for vocational classes and to other school divisions for special education programs, he said: “We pay our taxes here. I feel like our kids should go to school here and not be sent all over the world.”
Mr. Smoot also challenged the School Board’s decision to “dismiss” a non-tenured teacher without giving the teacher reasons why a con-1 tract is not being offered for next year. He said the teacher had done “a fine job, not just for my son but for all the other kids she taught.”
The School Board declined to discuss what was termed “a personnel issue.” However, Dr. Gangel offered to meet with Mr. Smoot to answer questions regarding the special education and vocational programs.
