Last call for absentees
Those county residents who will be away from Rappahannock on Election Day, Nov. 8, have one last chance to cast their ballot. According to Registrar Ruth Kilby, Saturday, Nov. 5 is the closing day for absentee ballots. Her office, located in the courthouse, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, to accommodate last-, minute absentee voters. Under a new law, Mrs. Kilby added, voters must apply for absentee ballots in person. Ballots may no longer be sent through the mails.
Scenic byway dedication
The Madison County Board of Supervisors will host the dedication of the state's-newest Scenic Byway, Route 231 from Sperryville to Gordonsville, at a ceremony in Madison this.Saturday, Nov. 5. The guest of honor will be Commonwealth Secretary of Transportation Vivian Watts. Transportation Commissioner Ray Pethtel and possibly a representative from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources may also attend. The ceremony will be held at the Madison County Extension Center in Madison, beginning at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
