Narrow road cause of crash
No charges w ere filed in an accident Sunday afternoon on Rt. 707, about .3 miles west of Rt. 231. Trooper Keen attributed the crash to “road conditions,” saying that the winding dirt road is too narrow for two cars to pass.
He said that a 1981 Ford 2-door, driven by Gregory B. Care, 22, of Sterling, was eastbound when it rounded a corner and struck a 1980 Jeep station wagon head on.
Trooper Keen said the Jeep’s driver, Jaime G. Tauler, 36, of Mechanicsville, Md., told him that he saw the other car coming around the curve and stopped completely, pulling as far off the right side of the road as he could get, when the Ford hit him.
The trooper estimated that the Ford was totalled, and that there was at least $3,000 damage to the Jeep.
Mr. Care was reported to have bruised his head when he hit the windshield, and later cut his finger when he tried to pry his bumper out. He was taken to Fauquier Hospital in a private car. He was not wearing a seat belt. No one in the Jeep was hurt.
Fire and rescue personnel from Sperryville responded to the accident.
