I am a registered Democrat. My principal reason for being so is having a background of people who would turn over in their graves were I to register as a Republican. I know that many former Democrats have overcome that roadblock. I have perhaps not been as honest as they, for 1 have voted Republican on the national ticket for the last few decades—at least since Mr. Dewey’s fiasco in challenging Harry Truman.
My political ambivalence grows out of what happened in the Democratic Party in the more or less recent presidential election years. During this period traditional Democratic political and economic liberalism has degenerated into the espousal of positions bordering on license.
