Crock pot apple butter
Measure 4 quarts unsweetened applesauce into crock pot. Let cook overnight slow with lid on. Next t
morning add 4 cups sugar, 2 Tbsp., | cinnamon, 2 tsp. ground cloves, 1*4 tsp. ground allspice and 1/4 cup vine- \ gar. Stir frequently. It will turn dark brown when thickened. Pour into jars and seal. Makes 6 pints.
Sour cream apple pie
Roll out dough for 9-inch pie and flute edge. Set aside. Mix together 1 cup sour cream, 2 Tbsp. flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 egg. Stir in 3 cups diced, tart apples. Mix well and pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake at 400 degrees in oven for 25 minutes. Combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour and 1/3 cup butter. Sprinkle on top of pie and bake additional 20 minutes. Elizabeth Tole, Rappahannock.
