Rappahannock County public school students did better on standardized tests this year than last year. School Superintendant David Gangel told the. School Board at its regular meeting last Tuesday.
In fact, only first grade reading at the 43rd percentile and third grade workstudy (which measures the ability to get information from resources) at the 49th percentile, were below national averages this year. All other scores reported were above average. Last year six scores were at or below the national average.
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills from which these scores are taken is administered to all students in grades one through seven in the elementary school and to eighth and eleventh graders in the high school. The scores reported to the School Board included reading (vocabulary)), Language (spelling and punctuation), wrork study, math, and a composite, or combination of scores in all areas.
