The t own has also deeded the County a portion of the undeveloped -Jett St. right-of-way between the Town Hall and Extension Office. That land will be used to put in a septic system for the building, which now has no plumbing.
Additional provisions in the deed. Town Attorney Frank Reynolds explained. provide that if the facade easements on the front and sides of the Town Hall building are violated, injunctive relief may be sought through an order from the Circuit Court.
The town has also requested that the county make every reasonable attempt to preserve the large spruce trees in the Jett St. right-of-way.
Mayor Morehouse also noted that the town is investigating the possibility ofplacing the library on the National Register of Historic Buildings, which would preserve it and prevent any alterations being made in the future.
The building was designed by James Powers Leake, a protegee of Thomas Jefferson. The county, Mayor Morehouse added, has secured an exterior easement on the library which will lie effective until it can be donated to the National Register.
A similar exterior easement restriction has been placed on the front and sides of the Town Hall building, although the county is permitted under the terms of the sale to construct an addition on t he rear of
