The Bluemont Concert Series has announced the 1989 Bluemont Summer schedule for the Warren Green Concerts held on the lawn of the old Warren Green in Warrenton. This popular series of outdoor family concerts begins on Saturday, June 24 and continues each Saturday through Aug. 26.
“We have a wonderful variety of absolutely top quality evenings planned for Warrenton,” says Peter H. Dunning, Executive Director of the Bluemont Concert Series, “including our Caribbean festival, a 28 voice Cambridge University choir, a Texas blues band, an evening of old songs, vintage rock and roll from the 1950’s and much more.”
The Warren Green Concerts begin each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Old Warren Green Hotel. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Requested donation for the concerts is $2 per person. All are welcome.
“People really look forward to our summer concerts,” says Doug Larson, Bluemont Board chairman, “Bluemont’s opening concert presents Mike Cross, a one-man storytelling, guitar playing, fiddling, whirlwind from North Carolina: and then the summer just keeps getting better and better as we go. ”
The 1989 schedule for the Warren Green Concerts and a brief description of the performers follows:
Saturday, June 24: Mike Cross, a one-man storytelling, guitar playing, fiddling whirlwind from North Carolina who tells jokes, sings songs and generally storms around on stage until everybody is having a good time.
Saturday, July 1: Trapezoid, the new incarnation of an old friend. Trapezoid is now a five member folk ensemble with an energetic conservatory feel, with a special appearance by Julie Portman of the Golden Key.
Saturday, July 8: Christ’s College Cambridge Choir, an internationally famous 28 voice choir on tour from Cambridge, England, performing English Cathedral music; one night only.
Saturday, July 15: Seldom Scene, contemporary bluegrass music at its very best; wonderful harmony singing, lively instrumentals, bad jokes and good fun.
Saturday, July 22: Hot Jazz, featuring the music of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, and other Swing Era Greats as well as Hot Jazz originals.
Saturday, July 29; Caribbean Festival, the return of the popular Pan Masters Steel Orchestra, with more great music and dancing on the green.
