WILLIAMSBURG - Virginia’s economic indicators showed continued strength during April, although automobile sales still lagged behind, according to the latest Virginia Business Report from the College of William and Mary.

Building permits statewide rose 13.7 percent in dollar value. That brings the cumulative advance for the first four months of 1989 to 4.3 percent, about in line with inflation, said Roy Pearson, director of the Bureau of Business Research at the college.
