Applications for the Ranee Lee Spellman Memorial Award will be accepted at Lord Fairfax Community College through July 15.
The purpose of the Ranee Lee Spellman Award is to honor a man who lived his beliefs in stewardship of the land, preservation of farming and mastering of its essential skills, and in the humane protection of animals and birds, an LFCC spokesman said.
Spellman, a veteran of the Vietnam war, served as farm foreman of Points of View Farm in Rappahannock County. After his death in 1982, his employer, Patricia Saltonstall, established this award in Mr. Spellman’s memory to foster the recognition and development of farming skills and support services.
This award is open to any‘fulltime or part-time student attending or planning to attend LFCC in either the Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock Production Technology, or Natural Resources Program.
