In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Rappahannock Yankees rallied from two runs behind in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Red Sox 10-9 and tighten the race for 1st place in the Bambino League.
The Yankees scored twice in the 1st inning and held a 7-2 lead after three innings, but the powerful Red Sox erupted for 6 runs in the 4th and added 1 more in the 6th on Paul Browns steady hitting and alert base running.
In the bottom of the sixth with two out, the Yankees fought back with daring base running and timely hitting. Tim O’Meara stole second, third and then scored on a passed ball.
After a walk to Allen Groves, Jeff “Rawhide” Atkins delivered a run scoring triple to tie the score. The stage was set for Donald Dorrell who ran the county to 0-2 before dropping a single to short centerfield to score Atkins for the winning run.
