'Working Girl'
The movie Working Girl will be playing at the Gav Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. The movie stars areHarrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Melanie Griffith. Director Mike Nichols has assembled an all-star cast for this fascinating look at one woman’s treacherous climb up the corporate ladder. Academy award winner Melanie Griffith is a delight as an intelligent working girl who is*wtermined to pull herself out of the secretarial pool. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 adults and $2 children.
Rapp. Convalesce booth
Be sure to stop on July 4 at Rappahannock Convalesce Aids’ booth. There will be homemade ham biscuits, cakes, cookies, and popcorn. Buy a raffle ticket and win a prize like the framed painting by Eloise Coates on exhibit at the Rappahannock Bank; a dinner for two at The Corner Post; a disco art mantle clock or a ceramic charm. CPR class in Sperryville
The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad will be giving a CPR class (course B or C) on June 27-28. The class will be held at the Sperryville Rescue Squad building from 7-10 p.m. The course will cost $5, which includes books and refreshments. Literacy Volunteers to meet
Rappahannock Literacy Volunteers will have a change of pace the first Friday in July w'hich is the 7th. The place of meeting remains the same, Trinity Parish Hall, but the time is earlier 9 a.m. and it will be a three hour refresher course for RLV tutors and anyone else in the teaching field who would benefit. The only requirement is that you notify Libby Whetzel at 675-3419 of your desire to grasp this opportunity.
Flint Hill carnival planned
Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival will be held Aug. 2-5. Scheduled events include ride all evening Wednesday for one low price beginning at 7 p.m.; Thursday evening the parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday awarding of prizes which will include a 1989 Dodge. Area residents are urged to mark their calendars and make plans to attend.
Ruritan beef barbeque
The 28th annual Amissville Ruritan Beef Barbecue is set for Saturday, July 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the fire house. Cost of the complete meal of slow-cooked over hot stones for 24 hours beef barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans, rolls, drink, pie and cake, is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
