King George, Caroline, Madison and Rappahannock counties are involved in a pilot project sponsored by the Extension Service to introduce teenagers to the Great Outdoors. Field trips involving hiking, canoeing and siding will be used to instruct 4-Hers on the impact of pollution on our environment.
The second outing of the series was held on July 7, 8 and 9 in Rappahannock and Madison counties.
Dr. Pat Trotter is the Extension specialist from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg who helped plan the outings and coordinate the counties involved. Karen Firehock from the Issac Walton League instructed the group about how to determine the quality of water in the mountain creeks by counting the numbers and types of insects in the streams.
