live music. Chief Brown said, this time provided by Jerry Williams and Mystic Sounds. Two shows will run again from 8-9 p.m. and from 10-11 p.m. There is no admission charge for any of the musical entertainment.
On Saturday afternoon the department’s fourth annual horseshoe tournament will be held at the carnival grounds. Always a favorite, in the past the tournament has drawn horseshoe-pitching experts from across Rappahannock County as well as the surrounding areas.
On Saturday evening the carnival will conclude with the drawing for the grand prize and the crowning of the department’s Honorary Fire Chief. Those events will take place around midnight, Chief Brown said.
As always, there will be plenty of food available, including hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries served by the department’s Ladies Auxiliary.
The fire department also has a number of game stands, as well as a dunking tank. Rumor has it. Chief Brown said, that fire department member and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Hubert Gilkey has agreed to take a turn in the dunking tank. There may be other surprise volunteers on the tank as well, he added.
“W'e hope that the community will come up to the Gap and enjoy an evening of family entertainment,” Chief Brown said. “And remember, all the proceeds from the carnival benefit the Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad."
Flint Hill’s turn next week
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department, whose carnival traditionally ends the summer season, will hold its carnival next week, from Wednesday, Aug. 2 through Saturday, Aug. 5.
As always, the Firemen’s Parade on Thursday, Aug. 3 will feature the newly-crowned Miss Virginia, Tami Elliott of Virginia Beach. Also appearing will be high school bands
