During the community’s debate on the addition to the jail, however, many arguments were made that confused the issue. Whether we want to live in a “museum town” is irrelevant here, because it goes to the question whether the town should have an ARB and concern itself with historic preservaton at all. Whether the sheriff needs a new office, whether the architecture of the proposed addition is pleasing, whether the w'hether the new jail cells would enable Rappahannnock to become the jail center of the Northern Piedmont and make lots of money, whether there are many instances of historic depredations in the town already-all of these considerations are extraneous to the case that was before the ARB.
