Camping out
“Camping out,” an expression that causes an endless flurry of sylvan images to flit about inside one’s cranium. But, although I had “camped out” an innumerable amount of times before, it had never been quite like the time I shared with fellow 4-Hers at the foot of Old Rag Mountain on July 8 and 9. Well, let me start (where else?) at the beginning.
As I left I checked everything off in my check-list-book. I call it a book because I brought a lot - a lot, and then some more, and some things of which I am not exactly certain what their purposes were. Anyway, eventually we arrived at the campsite where “flat land” could not be located with a bulldozer.
We were then told that with the wonderful assistance of our “positive attitudes” tent sites could be found all around (and lucky enough our 30 degree incline was as flat and level as the Dead Sea.
We soon learned to make use of
